    Customer service is alive and well at SMO in the person of [HVAC Technician] Keith Brown.  I am writing this letter to let you know how much I appreciated Keith’s dedication and professionalism.

    When lightning struck my home last summer, I had SMO technicians to my home on three separate occasions to make repairs to my air handler unit.  I can say that the air conditioning was restored and I was pleased but the airflow was not as it should have been for the remainder of the summer.  When Keith Browned arrived at my house this past Friday, he listened to my needs, understood what I wanted and reiterated back to me what I wanted accomplished.  Keith worked in my attic for three straight hours, re-wiring my unit’s motor and putting my system back to full functioning status, including properly re-wiring the programmable thermostat.  My A/C unit will now run smoothly all summer, which saves me money.  Keith Brown walked me through correct operating steps for the thermostat now that is was wired properly to the attic unit.

    I want to let you know that I am extremely satisfied SMO customer and it is all due to Keith Brown.  I recommend he be duly compensated for his high level of professionalism.

    I had an air handler/heat pump installed in June and I would like to say that the installers Johnny and Kevin did an outstanding job.  They were very polite and hard workers.  It was a very hot day when they installed the system…but they stayed over 8 hours and made sure we had AC before they left.  Johnny and Kevin are an asset to your company.  Any other person would have given up and come back another day.  I’m glad they were the installers that day and they did a great job.

    On December 9th our heat went out.  We contacted your business office to inquire about repair service and establishing a new account.  Without hesitation your personnel acted without reservation and dispatched a service repair person immediately. 

    The gentleman, James, was clearly a responsible, proficient, and professional technician.  He took care of our needs; however, our worst fears were realized when we learned the tank needed to be replaced (which James had informed us was a possibility).  As we discovered later that evening, water had once again made its way into our system.

    On Friday we contacted Margie and she scheduled an appointment for Saturday.  But that was not satisfactory with your company.  [Instead] she dispatched James and had him diagnose the problem.  We were not at home, as we were out Christmas shopping.  Margie contacted us and informed us of the need to install a new tank.  She then arranged for the installation department to contact me. Mr. Chris Duke called us with prices and most valuable information.  We were sold and wanted to schedule the installation in the very near future.  Chris insisted the work be performed on that day.  We disagreed, as it was raining, no pouring, and we did not need to have someone burdened with the elements.  Mr. Duke was persistent in the matter.  He said, “They will have to work somewhere else, why not your home?”  So with that, our tank was installed.  James was there promptly Saturday to complete the process.

    To “ALL” we are grateful for your professionalism and promptness.  We thank you, each and all.  We are proud to do business with you and will spread our success story.  If first impressions are an indication of what you are like, your company is a class act and can only be proud of its employees.  Thank-you and have a wonderful, joyful holiday!     I am writing to tell you that the two gentlemen (Francis and Richard) that came today were very courteous, polite, and explained the repair work to me before they did anything.  They found a way to insert the oil line into the house so it would not have any kinks or get twisted, and the line was not as long as first thought.  They capped off the old oil line and put a foam covering on the part of the line that was outside to make sure that our line wouldn’t freeze.  The work was also done in a relatively short time frame.  I thought they would be here four or five hours, but they did it in a couple of hours.  I think you should be proud to have these two men working for you.  Their work was definitely of high quality and they should be commended for it.

    My husband died several months ago and I was at a loss as to what was being done and what I might need to do in the future.  I wish to commend [technician] John for his caring and generous attitude.  He did his job thoroughly and efficiently.  I even might say he acted above and beyond what was necessary.  He even helped me look for the key that locked the outside fuse box of the air conditioner.

    He did one other thing to help me – finding out how to turn on the water to the house outside.  I hope that doesn’t get him into trouble, telling you this.  But I do want to tell you that if you have more employees like John you are very lucky indeed.

    I want to tell you how impressed I was with the two employees, Francis and James, who you sent to complete this job.  Both were very competent and worked well together.  They very willingly worked with me to remove the existing shrubbery from around the tank area, and solved the problem I was having of water getting onto the basement wall in times of prolonged rainfall.  It turned out that when the lines were originally installed in 1989, the outside hole through which the lines came into the house had never been sealed.  Knowing that I was having this problem, Francis came equipped with the perfect quick-setting cement that solved the problem once it was discovered.

    They Get the Job Done

    On December 16th two men from your company installed a new oil-fired furnace in my home.  I would like to thank these men, Dave Edwards and Gary Guiles, for their hard work that day and would like to bring to your attention their dedication and positive attitude.

    It was a very cold day, and we did not look forward to going without heat in the house for a day or possibly two, not the mention the thought of perhaps other unknowns that can sometimes develop with a project such as this.  However, Mr. Edwards, the senior of the two men, led the project with a very cheerful, positive, and confident attitude throughout the installation, and displayed a resolve that we would have heat in the house before they would leave the site.  True to his word, we did indeed have heat in the house that night.  Although these men had arrived that morning around 9:30 am, they were not able to leave until about 9:30 pm that evening.  During the twelve hours they were on the site, they worked quickly and efficiently, never taking a break.  I believe (I hope!) they were able to get lunch when they had to run out briefly for parts around noon, but they never got supper other than the slices of pizza that we offered them that evening (and which they ate while they worked).  They had started their day well before their 9:30 am arrival at our house that morning, and with the long drive home to Hollywood, Maryland that evening they put in a very long day in order to serve us, their customers.

    The installation of the furnace posed a number of challenges, including the access to the basement and the plumbing hookups.  With Mr. Edwards’ experience and leadership, Mr. Guiles’ excellent support, and diligence from both these men, they were able to provide us with very welcome heat in the house that evening.  We are very appreciative of their efforts!

    I had been gone for about five weeks and noticed evidence of a dried up puddle in my furnace room.  When I opened the furnace area door, the whole area was flooded!  A call to SMO on February 7th pleasantly fielded by Robin [in customer service], brought service technician Tom to our door within just a couple of hours!  Tom had quite a challenge before him.  Not only was the long troublesome recalculating pump leaking profusely, but the cold water feed was leaking worse!  This was a long afternoon, as everything had to be drained!  Further, it seemed as one part was fixed another part of the plumbing “rebelled” and started leaking.  Tom was very patient and efficient in diagnosing the problems and fixing them.  No leaks now!  I was impressed with this efficiency and patience in completing this work.  Please convey my thanks for jobs well done to both Robin and Tom.

    In October of 2005, my mother purchased a new furnace from SMO Keith Brown made the recommendation after inspecting the old system, Brett Ewing wrote up a sales proposal after in-person consultation, Hubert Robey scheduled installation, and Dave Wolfram completed the work.  Mr. Roby, supervisor in the Equipment Sales and Installation Department, provided great customer service to my mother and has always done so in the past years.  Mr. Roby sent [technician] Dave Wolfram, to install the new furnace and AC coil.  Mr. Wolfram, who completed the job by himself, did an excellent job installing the equipment and was very meticulous about cleaning up.  Thank you for your company’s continued good customer service, both on the phone and at the job site.

    I had a new furnace/AC unit installed on February 20th and I am writing to commend the two technicians who did the work… They arrived shortly after 8:00 am and were finished a little after 3:00 pm.  They did a great job, and I’m very pleased with the service.

    As for the new furnace – it’s very quiet, I can hardly hear it when it’s running, and there is a marked difference in the temperature in the two bedrooms on the north side of the house.  If I knew a new furnace would make such a difference, I would have gotten a new one years ago!

    I would like to express my gratitude to SMO and its employees I dealt with today.  I had a semi-emergency today with a leaking hot water heater temperature and pressure relief valve.  I tested the valve today.  It wouldn’t stop leaking after the test, no matter what I tried.  I almost called a local plumber until I remembered I was a member of the VIP Comfort Club with SMO.  At around 5:15 pm tonight, I called and spoke with a very pleasant lady (I forgot her name) and she asked if I would be home tonight.  What a surprise to not be told that someone would be come tomorrow between 8 am and 5 pm like most companies do.  About 45 minutes later, someone else called to say a technician was on his way.  At 6:30 pm, Donald Burns arrived and had the leaking valve fixed in 25 minutes.  He was very professional and answered all of the questions I had.  Thank you again for your outstanding service!!!

    I am writing to compliment your service department.  Yesterday I realized my air handler fan was not working.  I was concerned that maybe the motor was damaged.  I called SMO and was connected to Robin.  She was very helpful.  I explained I have a service contract with your firm.  She assured me a technician would respond “today”.  I was dubious of this response, but to my surprise the technician arrived approximately two hours later.

    The technician’s name was John.  He was very courteous.  He was professional in his demeanor and deliberate approach to the problem.  Within a few minutes he had isolated the problem.  It was a burnt terminal on a circuit board.  Fortunately, he had the part on his truck.  This work was tedious, but John stayed calm and professional.  He had the problem repaired and put back together in minimum time.  He is a credit to your organization.

    Recently my furnace shut down and your technician Gary Hezlep was dispatched to fix it.  He arrived in the afternoon and after doing some troubleshooting discovered the problem was an inoperating fan.  The fan had a brace that was broken and there weren’t any in stock.  Mr. Hezlep, instead of ordering a bracket, took the bracket to his home and welded it.  He then came back at 9:30 pm to install it, so we could have heat.  We appreciated his extra effort.

    The day our new heat pump and furnace were to be installed just happened to be our hottest day of the summer (our old system was still working though).  They shut down the system shortly after 8 am and had the new system in so the air was operational by 2:30 pm.  The temp did not go up more than 10 degrees during the downtime.  My wife was very happy with how clean and neat the two installers left everything when they were finished with the installation.  We had one slight problem with the outside sensor that transmits the temp to the controls inside.  I notified SMO and the same day two installers showed up and had it changed out in a few minutes.  So far we are very happy with our new system.  This will be our first experience with a heat pump during cold weather.

    I realize that we buy very little fuel from your company and may not be one of your preferred customers, but from the events that transpired today, I think that you folks must treat all of your customers as preferred customers.  Today I called to confirm that we were scheduled for a delivery of off-road fuel for our equipment at National Harbor.  When I called I spoke with Jasmine in customer service, who was the most courteous and professional customer service person I think that I have ever spoken with.  She indicated that we were not on the delivery schedule for today but would see what she could do for us.  After explaining that I was in a bind because my equipment was out of fuel and my reserve tank was empty, she indicated that the best she could do was tomorrow but would continue to try to get me something today.  At approximately 1:30, the driver, Claude, called to tell me that he was onsite and would not only fill up my reserve tank but also the piece of equipment that was sitting next to it.  I just want to say thanks to everyone at SMO for making this happen and that SMO should be very proud of all of their employees.  Everyone that I have been in contact with at your company has always been very helpful and it is obvious to me that SMO is a professionally run company that takes a lot of pride in making their customers happy.  This incident was no ones fault but my own and because of Jasmine and the staff at SMO I’d like to say thank you so much for making a bad day get better.  Claude is the most conscientious driver that I have ever dealt with.  He always calls me to tell me that he is on the site and asks if I need any other equipment fueled up, which in most cases we do.  So please pass this along that you folks at SMO are some of the most courteous and professional people that I have ever dealt with.
